Rural sports meet under PYKKA begins

ITANAGAR, Feb 17: The 3rd State Level Inter District Rural Sports Meet under Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) began at Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA) playground, Chimpu, near here today.

Inaugurating the sports meet, MLA and Sports Authority of Arunachal (SAA) chairman, Tapuk Taku advised the participating young boys and girls to take up sports seriously and try to excel in their chosen sports discipline. He advised them to practice their chosen sports regularly and have proper diet to become a good sportsperson. He asked them to abstain from taking drugs and alcohol, which may ruin their career.
Informing about the state government’s pragmatic sports policy, Taku said that the state government led by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has guaranteed job security to all outstanding sportspersons besides other facilities. He encouraged them to grab the opportunity by excelling in their chosen sports.
Later, Taku declared the Sports Meet open.
Sports and Youth Affairs Secretary Indira Mallo Jain highlighted the aims and objective of PYKKA which aims at encouraging and promoting games and sports among rural youths. It also aims to tap and nurture hidden sports talents and create infrastructure, especially playground at village and panchayat level, the sports secretary informed.
Tourism Secretary Sonam Chombay, in his brief speech, delivered few words of advice to the young players.
“Sports inculcate the sense of discipline and team spirit. It (sports) does not only keep one physically fit but also foster friendship, he said and asked them to maintain the same throughout their life for achieving success.
Sports and Youth Affairs Assistant Director Ramesh Lingi gave the ‘Vote of Thanks.’
The opening ceremony was attended by Sports and Youth Affairs Joint Director Tadar Apa, SLSA principal P Lombi, Arunachal Wushu Association president Toko Teki, Arunachal Karate Do Association general secretary L Marik, District Sports Officers (DSOs) and coaches of the participating teams.

BJP provides relief materials to Dapo fire victims
Awareness on fire safety measures and precautions stressed
ITANAGAR, Feb 17: State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Tai Tagak accopnaied by MLA Tapen Siga and Party’s district office bearers visited the site of fire accident at Sigin –II Colony, Daporijo and distributed relief items to the fire victims yesterday.
Both the Party President and MLA distributed a blanket each to 110 affected people along with other kitchen items like, bucket, jug, gamla, plate and edible salt packets. The state BJP leader duo also handed over Rs. one Lakh to the fire victims as a token of sympathy.
The devastating fire claimed three precious lives, injured six and burnt down 37 families rendering 110 people homeless.
Later, Tagak interacted with the people and shared grief and sorrow with the victims of the inferno.
The BJP president having visited the sites and interacted with the fire victims and Colony Committee members opined that the magnitude of damage could have been prevented to a large extent had there been minimum required fire tenders. Presently, there are two fire tenders in the district headquarters of which one is reportedly lying defunct and another is not being properly maintained.
While expressing his serious concern over reports of frequent fire accidents in the state, the State BJP President urged upon the state government to thoroughly assess the lost and damages caused to the people in the devastating fire victims and sanction adequate relief and rehabilitation package at the earliest so that they could start normal life again. He also called upon the power department to notify the timings of power supply and cut and ensure proper house electrification to avoid fire from electrical spark. Stressing the need for educating people on fire safety measures and precautions, Tagak appealed to the people to be extra cautious while handling fire, LPG, using candle etc as majority of fire accidents are allegedly caused by electrical spark and using candle carelessly.
Siga, who is also the Deputy Leader of BJP Legislature Party expressed his serious concern over frequent fire accidents in the Daporijo township. He expressed his sympathy to the fire victims and assured them to press the state government for providing adequate relief and rehabilitation assistance.
He also called upon the dwellers of the Daporijo Township to take extra precautions to avoid fire and remain safe. The government alone can not solve this problem without support and cooperation of the people by following the fire safety regulations. The colony welfare committees too have great role play in educating the dwellers on fire safety precautions.
Tagak and Siga along with other party office bearers and people present on the occasion observed two minutes silence and prayed to almighty for eternal peace of souls of the late mother and her two children, who died in the devastating fire accident.
District president Tapa Dadi, State BJYM vice presidents Dug Saha and Tomi Haider, former District Presidents and senior party leaders were also present.
Karate likely to be included in 2020 Olympic
ITANAGAR, Feb 17: Karate—the ancient art of self defense – looks very likely to be included in 2020 Olympics Games. Karate will compete with seven other shortlisted sports –baseball/softball, roller sports, sport climbing, squash, wakeboarding, wushu and wrestling – for inclusion in the 2020 Olympic Games as an additional sport," Reuters reported quoting IOC statement.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) made a surprise recommendation on Tuesday to drop wrestling from the 2020 Games leaving the way open for one of seven other sports, including Karate, to be included for the 2020 Olympics, the report said.
The representatives from the eight sports will make presentations at a meeting in Russia in May for inclusion in the 2020 Games. The Executive Board will recommend one. The final word will come in a vote at the IOC's general session in Argentina in September, the report said adding that whichever sport is chosen will join the 25 sports the IOC listed Tuesday as core sports for 2020 Olympics Games.

Karate is one of the most played and popular sports in Arunachal Pradesh, and there are many karatekas, who have already shown their calibre in various international level competitions.
ITANAGAR, Feb 17: Catholic Mission Siyum in collaboration with Itanagar Diocesan Empowerment Association (IDEA) yesterday organized a free medical camp at I B, Taliha in Upper Subansiri district yesterday.
A team of doctors led by Dr. Susmitha, Divine Mercy Health Centre, Siyum, medical officers Hage Oniya and Dojum Boje of District Hospital, Daporijo conducted free health check up. Altogether 254 patients from Taliha and nearby villages were treated for various ailments like respiratory tract infections, diarrhea, worm infestations, anemia, gastritis etc during the camp.
Earlier, in his inaugural address, ASM Posar Ginglo emphasized on the need to get good health care facilities for all. He appealed the public to avail the benefit of the free health camp.
Tabu Duchok, Pastor, Catholic Church Taliha and the local organizer of the camp while welcoming the doctors said that such health camp will greatly benefit the local poor people. Among others Fr. Siju Jose, Parish Priest Siyum were present on the occasion.

ITANAGAR, Feb 17: Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board Chairman Jalley Sonam said that the students should come forward to contribute in developmental activities in the state rather than resort to bandh calls terming that bandh calls hampered the developmental process. He was addressing as chief guest during the 7th general conference of All Pipu Chayangtajo Gyawepurang Sawa Student Union at remote circle headquarter Pipu on 15th February.
Emphasizing the students as backbone of the society, Sonam said that it has lot of responsibilities to work for the society particularly for the welfare of the education sectors in the area. ITANAGAR, Feb 17: A special publicity campaign on “Health & Family Welfare" conducted by the Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP) GOl, Nampong Unit concluded with a mega rally cum awareness campaign in Motongsa, a remote village under Nampong Circle of Changlang district. Over 200 participants comprising women folk from the area, ASHA workers, Panchayat members, Govt officials and local public took part in the rally.

GSU demands legal action
ITANAGAR, Feb 17: Galo Students’ Union (GSU) has strongly condemned the life and property threats given to Bika Ronya, elder brother of GSU general secretary Binya Ronya by some miscreants on February 10.
According to a GSU release, the group armed with lethal weapon allegedly threatened Bika of dire consequences if the bandh call was not stopped as the movement was being led by his brother and GSU general secretary Binya Ronya. It further alleged that a group armed with lethal weapon had also stalked Binya Ronya at a Hotel in Aalo February 12.
An FIR has been lodged against the miscreants at the Aalo police station, GSU said.
“GSU had proposed to launch a democratic movement against the state govt. only for the cause of justice to the broad day murder of late Yudik and in the interest of the Galo people as a whole. The agitation is not based in the interest of a single individual as they have been alleging, rather it is the decision passed by all the executive members of the union after through discussion and consultation with rest of the students especially of Galo Community,” the release said. “The GSU general secretary alone can not be held responsible for the decision of the GSU and he alone should not be targeted in such a way”, it added.
The Union appealed to the authority concerned to initiate immediate legal action against the culprits and bring them to book under appropriate provision of law.

When will journalist "Tongam Rina" get justice?

Through the column of your esteem daily I would like ask to the Nabam Tuki led government when will journalist "Tongam Rina" get justice. It is high time they act as government has failed to arrest the culprits involved in the attack even after passing of 215 days.
After the attack she has become an inspiring figure for us to take journalism as profession in our day to come.
Lastly, it is my sincere request to the home deptt, capital police and district administration to deliver justice to Tongam Rina at the earliest and to provide enough security to the press. And award harsh punishment to the culprits involved in the attack.

Please stand up for APST students
Dear Editor,
Through your column esteem daily, I want to remind and appeal to the so called student union leaders who had promised to fight for various rights of Arunachalee students during election time.
One such agenda is to increase the APST reservation quota in NERIST.
What I want to point out is that there are 3 levels in NERIST entrance examination, namely 1. NERIST entrance exam 1(NEE1) where no. of seat reserved for APST student is same as other state of north east India, which is only 16 seat 2. NERIST entrance exam 2 (NEE2), where number of seat reserve for APST student is again same as other state which is only 9 and 3) NERIST entrance exam 3 (NEE3) where no. of seat reserve for APST student is 1 in each department which is so low.
So, it is my sincere and direct appeal to so called student unions to raise their strong voice for the welfare of student community like to increase APST reservation quota of NERIST from present 16 to 30 in NEE1, 9 to 20 in NEE2, and 1 to 5 seat in each department mainly in civil and electrical in NEE3. Such step will be for the greater interest of our student community, so that our student should get maximum benefit like other state do.

Capital needs streetlight
Dear Editor,
Benignly, I beg to state that it is pathetic to see that most of the places or colony in the entire capital complex remains under darkness due to absence of sufficient number of street light. It is pertinent to mention herein that the most of the heinous activities are committed in the area where darkness prevails in the absence of street light. Criminal are loitering in such area, the darkness act as appendages to the criminal to accelerate their criminal activities.
As such for the reason alluded above, ALL NYISHI YOUTH ASSOCIATION (ANYA), taking into consideration the plight of the affected public vehemently urge particularly Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh and Home Minister to do some needful action for erection of the streetlights. It is believed that if the sufficient numbers of street lights are installed, it would serve as check for the potential crime to be committed.
In the light of the above facts and circumstances, we hope that government will initiate necessary action to install sufficient numbers of street lights in and around the capital complex in the interest of people and for the state as a whole.

Injustice against AP Judges shocking

This is with regards to your news item published in your local daily on 16.02.2013 pertaining to dismissal of Arunachalee Judges by Hon’ble
Gauhati High Court (Registry).
This is indeed very unfortunate and shocking news about the arbitrary dismissal of
three Judges of the state by the HHC Registry which is the highest temple of justice
for 7 North Eastern State. We don’t expect such injustice from highest judicial authority
of the 7 North-
The three judges of the state who had rendered services to the state for the last more than 10 years in administering justice to the people of the
state ought to have been given due consideration for such long years of services under Rule 7 AP Judicial Service Rules which has a force
of law under 309 of the Constitution of India.
In this regard, I personally along with my friends really appreciate MP Takam Sanjay who who brought out these facts to the public limelight. I further request the AP Govt to act as expeditiously as possible in any rate in the interest of General public of the state. I also request Arunachal Times paper to publish such important news item in front page of the paper as other paper did because it bears public importance.

Senior citizens need better care
According to a recent survey conducted in 12 cities in India to understand the sentiment of the senior citizens of the country, seventy per cent of seniors want to move out of town into a home of their own and 42 per cent seniors rank security among the top 3 requirements from a living space. While more than 80 per cent of senior people seek to sustain lifestyle or improve it as they do not wish to “retire” and more than 75 per cent expressed the want to be more active by wanting to socialize, club, party, exercise, play sports and shop luxury goods.
India had 98 million elderly citizens, and this is expected to grow to 118 million senior citizens by 2016 as average life expectancy will cross 70 years by then.
Changing familial trends and greater economic strength is making the lives of the
elderly better in some ways. In general, income levels are on the rise – 8 to 9 out
of every 10 seniors are working and value of salaries drawn has grown by 20 per cent
over the last 20 years. The late working age, might be related to the breakdown of
joint families. With joint families giving way to nuclear families, more and more
seniors are living alone -
The findings of the research give a grim picture, showing a state where many of the elderly in India living unsatisfied lives full of insecurity and loneliness. With such a large population of the senior persons, India needs to step up to take more care of its senior citizens.
